Take mosquito precautions

A case of West Nile virus has officially been confirmed near Kawartha Lakes, so take extra mosquito precautions. There have been eight cases throughout Ontario in 2017, and mosquitoes have tested positive for the virus in Peterborough and other nearby areas. "Most people who get West Nile virus do not experience any symptoms, but a small number of individuals may develop flu-like symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, muscle weakness, and stiff neck. Symptoms usually develop two to 14 days after receiving a bite from an infected mosquito." To be safe, use insect repellent with DEET, reduce areas with standing water that create ideal breeding conditions, and make sure your house has no places mosquitoes could get through.
