New wildlife center

The Kawartha Wildlife Centre has found its home near Omemee and will be working out of a mobile structure. While this is exciting news, the centre still has a ways to go! MyKawartha.com said, "The mobile structure will allow Vandersanden to start helping animals this year while she organizes events to raise money to construct a permanent building that will house an animal hospital. Vandersanden also has plans to build an aviary and flight cage for birds. However, Vandersanden says before that is done she must acquire the appropriate permits." We are so happy to see this need being filled in our area! Wild animals are a beautiful part of our daily life here in Kawartha Lakes!

Kawartha Wildlife Centre to open this spring near Omemee

Olivia Vandersanden is one step closer to realizing her dream of opening a wildlife rehabilitation centre in the Kawarthas. The licensed veterinary technician says she’s secured property near Omemee to build the Kawartha Wildlife Centre. Originally, Vandersanden wanted to build north of Peterborough, however, a gracious property owner is allowing her to use a parcel of land on Yankee Line near Bethel Road for the centre. “She (the property owner) is one of our followers on Facebook who reached out to us and said she’d like to help out,” says Vandersanden.
