Side-by-side ATVs on the trails

Side-by-side ATVs may soon be allowed on the Victoria Rail Trail Corridor. Currently, they are not permitted. Shane Kelly from the Kawartha ATV Association told MyKawartha.com that, "He can’t see these bigger ATVs doing any more damage to the trails than those already in use there. He says his association works with the city to maintain the trails and they are pretty diligent about making repairs, or at least telling the city where repairs need to be made." If this bylaw passes, we'll be sure to let you know!

Kawartha Lakes trails could soon see side-by-side ATVs

Make way for bigger vehicles on the Victoria Rail Trail Corridor. A bylaw going to council on Feb. 13 calls for a change that would permit side-by-side ATVs, sometimes called UTVs, along much of the corridor. Shane Kelly, vice-president of the Kawartha ATV Association (KATVA), says the change is a welcome one to side-by-side users. “It’s something that’s needed,” he told This Week on Friday (Feb. 9). “The ATV market has changed and a lot more people are using side-by-sides. We see it as a good thing.”
