Hello, Fishing Season in the Kawarthas!

Here are some highlights:
  • You need a fishing license if you’re between 18 and 64 years of age
  • You can purchase a sport fishing license, or a less expensive conservation license, which has lower limits
  • The walleye season opened on Saturday, May 7, 2016, and ends on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. You can keep up to four walleye under the sport fishing license, or one walleye under the conservation license, as long as they are between 35 and 50 centimetres in length. All other walleye caught outside of those lengths must be released. An exception to this rule relates to Balsam Lake, where you can keep only three walleye (sport fishing license) or one walleye (conservation license). You can only keep walleye if they are less than 37 centimetres or greater than 50 centimetres in length. All walleye caught within this range must be released
  • The season for muskellunge begins on Saturday, June 4, 2016, and ends on Thursday, December 15, 2016. You can only keep one under the sport fishing license, and only if its length exceeds 112 centimetres. You can’t keep any muskellunge under the conservation license
  • The season for largemouth and smallmouth bass begins on Saturday, June 18, 2016, and ends on Thursday, December 15, 2016. You can keep up to six under the sport fishing license. You can keep up to two largemouth and smallmouth bass under the conservation license. There are no size restrictions for these species
  • The season for northern pike is open all year round, and you can keep up to six under the sport fishing license. You can keep up to two under the conservation license. There are no size restrictions for this species.
