Shadow Lake Cottages For Sale

The Kawartha name has become synonymous with cottage country living just like the famed area known as Muskoka. It comes from the anglicization of the word ‘Ka-wa-tha,’ meaning ‘land of reflections,’ which was bestowed upon the chain of ten lakes by an aboriginal woman by the name of Martha Whetung from the Curve Lake First Nations. Similarly, the newer name ‘Kawartha’ is said to mean ‘bright waters and happy lands.’ Both no doubt refer to the natural beauty that has made Kawartha Lakes real estate such a popular commodity.

Shadow Lake plays a role in these bright waters as it is part of an important Ontario watershed. From the Haliburton area of the Canadian Shield, water flows south to connect with the Gull River System. It flows from Horseshoe Lake in Haliburton into Gull Lake, then Moore Lake, before entering Shadow Lake below the 12-foot dam at the crossroads in Norland. The flow continues south through the Shadow Lake System, then over the falls in Coboconk before flowing into Balsam Lake.

Shadow Lakes is the perfect place to plant your feet, enjoy your retirement or just get away with your family on a seasonal basis.
