The Woodville Livestock Auction Makes a Fun Weekend Outing

Date: 08/26/2016

Located one mile east of the village of Woodville, it has been in operation since the early 1950s. What started as a small family business has grown to become one of the busiest livestock auctions in the province, while keeping its small town atmosphere. Sales take place on Saturdays starting at 9:00 a.m. and continue all day until all three active sale rings have finished selling their livestock and farm items. You can have lunch at their new country kitchen restaurant and browse through their large farmer's market with vendors offering everything from fresh local fruit, vegetables, and maple syrup to clothing, woodwork, and farm supplies. We recently visited the livestock auction with the express intent of procuring some egg-laying hens for our new chicken coop. Given my lack of auction-bidding competence, I came away empty-handed from the auction. But a local farmer had pity on me. He offered to sell me some similar hens for a very competitive price. We now have six happy chickens clucking in our yard. And fresh eggs every morning. Mission accomplished.
